Weekly Reminders

It's officially Show Choir Season!!! We wanted to get some updates out to all of the students and parents.

Set Building:
We will be at the Milburn Campus tonight at 6:30 if you some artistic skills and are willing to help paint backdrops.

Stage Crew:
We will need a crew of 3-4 adults that will plan on being at the Crete Monee Competition (1/24) that are will to help set up and tear down the backdrop & set pieces at competition. We literally only have a few minutes to get it up and to get it down, or the students will have points taken off the performance score. Please respond to this email or to Tim Mueller at tmueller.rrms@gmail.com if you are willing to help. You will still be able to watch your student perform if you help out with this task.

O'Town Showdown:
Reminder- All students are required to get at least one $25 sponsor for the competition. We encourage the students to find someone other than their parents to provide the sponsorship. Any sponsorship of at least $50 is provided with ad/shout out space in the event program. Sponsorship materials are attached if you need them and MUST be turned in by Thursday, 1/15 either in choir class or rehearsal.

Reminder- All students must be present all weekend for the competition. We set up on Friday evening starting at 6PM, and it usually lasts a couple of hours. We tear down on Sunday afternoon, starting at 2PM. This typically doesn't take more than an hour to an hour and a half. We ask that parents help out with either set up or tear down and work at least one shift during the competition day. Competition day is LONG- we start at 6AM and will likely be there through 10PM. It is very important that we have your support, as this single weekend event is what makes this program self sustaining.

A link will be provided later this week to the sign-up genius page where you can register to work and donate items that are needed for the event.

Preview Night:
We will have a Preview Night on Tuesday, January 20th at 7PM in the Milburn Auditorium. Both Innovations and Great Expectations will be performing their competition shows before they head to Crete Monee on Friday, 1/23. We would love a packed a house- please invite your friends and family.

Note: All Chaperones must go to either the Milburn or Smiley security desk and have their Driver's License scanned in order to travel with the students.

Remind 101:
As we begin our travel season, we recommend that you register for Remind 101. Mrs. Nordin & Mrs. Keller utilize this application to send out text messages in mass regarding important choir information, including notifying parents of our ETA returning from competitions. See the attached document for more information.

Suggestions:
  • We recommend girls have at least 3 pairs of false eyelashes, which are required for competition days.
  • If you are having trouble with the bottoms of character shoes being slick, consider purchasing gator tape. A small strip on the bottom of your shoe will help out tremendously.
  • How To videos have been posted on the Facebook pages for both groups to help the girls with getting an authentic 1940's inspiring style.
  • If you have not been to a competition before, the days are very long. Snacks and drinks are permitted on the bus, but often not allowed in the school. Competitions do offer a variety of food choices that can be purchased. Pillows, blankets, etc. are also permitted on the bus, but students are responsible for keeping track of and transporting all of their belongings.
